Bioenergy

Sustainable biogenic energy sources continue to play an important role in the decarbonisation of energy systems. On the one hand, they can contribute to CO₂ emission neutrality, and on the other hand, these energy sources represent an additional secure and non-volatile source of electricity and heat generation. Their contribution to a certain, albeit smaller, share will be inevitable for deep decarbonisation. Biogenic energy sources have also recently gained relevance against the backdrop of declining energy security from imported fossil fuels. Typical biogenic energy sources include, for example, biomethane, wood, waste wood and biogenic waste.

The non-transparent markets for such commodities represent a substantial challenge for decision-makers across sectors, especially when making investment decisions. On the one hand, fundamental developments in the energy markets are decisive, on the other hand, less quantifiable regulatory risks, for example the existing regulatory framework at EU level for the classification of green fuels and investments.

We support our customers in various areas with the help of our established energy industry models:

  • Biomethane market:The biomethane market in Germany has recently come under pressure. While demand for sustainable biomethane will continue to rise, especially in the transport sector, procurement is becoming increasingly difficult. With our long-term biomethane price forecast, we provide you with a sound data basis for your decision-making process.
  • Wood market: Wood and waste wood can be used for electricity and heat production. There are currently still numerous waste wood power plants in Germany that are gradually being phased out of EEG subsidies. For fresh wood, the question of its use in power plants also arises. When assessing the price development, however, regional differences due to transport costs must also be taken into account. We support you in the long-term modelling of the wood market.

In addition, we advise you with customised projects on specific problems related to bioenergy. Please feel free to contact us with your topics.
