Large-scale battery storage systems are booming in Germany – and yet the market is only at the beginning of an enormous growth cycle. The high number of grid connection requests and the urgent need and demand for flexibility in an energy system characterized by increasing volatility are impressive proof of this. At the same time, battery storage business models are extremely economical and generate attractive returns.

However, the questions of future robust revenue levels and revenue ranges in a market that is still in its infancy are not easy to answer. Possible regulatory measures and interventions, further technical developments, falling investment costs, an uncertain financing environment, but also increasing competitive intensity as a result of an expected high level of battery expansion also draw attention to the risks. In addition, reliable revenue-side empirical values or marketing patterns are hardly established in this still young and very dynamic market.
