Study on the Continued Operation of Wind Turbines

After 20 years of operation of a wind turbine in the EEG many operators have to make a decision: Continued operation – is that possible? The main question here is whether it works and is economically viable. In order to analyse this question in more detail, enervis offers the new study on continued operation.

In the study, you will gain a more detailed insight into the market for continued operation in Germany and learn whether and under what circumstances continued operation can prove to be an economic option. We back this up with, among other things, concrete sample calculations of future power market revenues for several locations and WTG types based on a current power market scenario.

CONTENTS

The study of continued operation includes an analysis of the old plant stock that is suitable for continued operation and an examination of the cost and revenue situation, which is the only way to ensure economic continued operation.

The structure of the study is therefore structured as follows:

Situation of continued operation

  • Analysis of the existing portfolio with commissioning by 2005 and assessment of the repowerability of these capacities
  • Evaluation of manufacturers, WTG types
  • Overview of operating costs of old plants and operating concepts in the 3rd decade

After the EEG time

  • What changes in marketing?
  • PPAs as an alternative?

Profitability of continued operation

  • Exemplary calculation of the profitability of continued operation using several example windparks at different locations
  • Based on a current power market scenario by enervis and assumptions regarding the future amount and structure of operating costs
  • Conclusion: Is continued operation economically possible?
